Notre Dame Beats Michigan in Rivalry Game

For the first time in ten years, Notre Dame has started the season 4-0.  Even more sweet for the Fightin’ Irish is the fact that they beat Michigan on Saturday to get the victory.  Commentators around the country are saying that Notre Dame’s comeback is for real, that the defense is particularly strong and that after many years of hype without accomplishment, the team may finally be poised to win some games.

Denard Robinson of Michigan, a quarterback who was originally thought to be a legitimate Heisman candidate, struggled again during the game.  He had four picks and fumbled the ball in the Notre Dame Red Zone.

Robinson was not alone.  There were 8 total turnovers in the game, which was a sloppy match from the beginning.

Michigan started the year as a Top Ten Team but has now lost to Auburn and Notre Dame.  Robinson’s Heisman prospects are dwindling as are the team’s chances for a season that meets pre-season expectations.  In contrast, with this victory, it is possible that Notre Dame will find its way into the Top Ten.

Manning Joins 500 Club

Going into this weekend, 8 quarterbacks had thrown for 500 yards in a single game.   Eli Manning just made it 9.  Manning tossed for over 500 yards and three touchdowns in helping New York beat the Bucs.  And he did this on a day that started with 3 picks against him in the first half.  But in the second half, he got going with almost 300 yards for the half, including almost 250 in the fourth quarter, along with two touchdown passes.  Zafar Hasan, divorce lawyer and family law attorney

Alfonso Ribeiro is not dead

Last week, reports all over the internet indicated that Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, had died.   It appears this was an internet hoax, as Ribeiro tweeted during the week that he is alive and well.

Fed Announces QE3

In a decision that caught almost no one by surprise, the Federal Reserve today announced that it was undertaking QE3.   As most observers know, the Fed has been trying to push the economy out of its funk since the beginning of the Great Recession, by undertaking prior QE programs and keeping interest rates artifically low, with a view toward jumpstarting the economy.

These measures may have prevented further damage to the econom, however, the unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, at over 8%.   The Fed was clear that this is a concern:  “The weak job market should concern every American. It imposes hardship on people and a waste of human skills and talents,” Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said in a press conference later Thursday.

Under the program, which is unuusal in that it is open-ended, the Fed will purchase $40 billion of bonds per month.  In its statement, the Fed indicated it will not only continue QE3, but also “employ its other policy tools” if the “labor market does not improve substantially.”

But the Fed knows that it needs help from a lame duck (and lame generally) Congress, which has been unable to pass a budget, reign in spending or circumvent the looming fiscal cliff.  Said Bernanke, “I want to be clear — While I think we can make a meaningful and significant contribution to reducing this problem, we can’t solve it. We don’t have tools that are strong enough to solve the unemployment problem.”

Outfield Catch on Video

Amazing Outfield Catch

For those of you who like ESPN Sportscenter, here is a play that had to be on the Top Ten.  This fantastic catch was made by Jason Repko of the Class AAA Patucket Red Sox.

It was an amazing over the wall catch.  Unfortunately, Repko’s team lost.   But he definitely made the highlight reel with this one.  Said Repko, “It definitely felt good, but we still lost. I want to be happy about it, but you can’t be because you lost and you still feel down about the game,” Repko said on Monday, via ESPNBoston.com. “All in all, when I got home and saw it on TV, I was like, ‘that was kind of cool.’ I enjoyed it, and to see it [on SportsCenter] was cool.”

College Football

Week 1 was yesterday.  There were some big games and one “not so big game” with a lot of symbolism on the line. In the latter camp, Penn State played its first game since the conviction of Sandusky and removal of the Paterno statue.  Despite all of the controversy, fans and alumni showed very strong support for the program with rallies all week long.   While Penn State lost the game to Ohio University, the game was filled with fan chants supporting the team and its new coach.

Elsewhere, Alabama (roll tide) dominated Michigan (go blue) and the Heisman hopes of Denard Robinson, while not over, took a serious hit last night.   Notre Dame took out Navy and Urban Meyer was victorious as the new coach at Ohio State.

Personal Shopping Service

Like many men, half my morning is spent trying to figure out what to wear.  And when it comes to shopping for clothes, lets just say I am a little challenged.

What I have figured out over time is that the key is to have some good pieces that are interchangeable, thus expanding the number of combinations that can be put together.

But now there is an internet service called trunk club.  Link is below.   Trunk Club, headquarters in Chicago, is a company with an online personal shopper.  You sign in for the service and then a rep from the Company calls you to discuss your style needs.   Then you get a great-looking trunk with clothes several days later.  If you dont like any of them, you send them back.

I am not being paid to endorse them.  In fact, I havent used them yet.   But I just know how much time and money I have wasted buying clothes that work together instead of getting a WARDROBE.  I cannot wait to get started.
